We have a variety of opportunities for those looking for a fun, engaging, educational volunteer experience, regardless of mechanical knowledge or experience with bikes. By volunteering at Boston Square Community Bikes, you will help others maintain access to affordable and sustainable transportation by bicycle, help us fix and recycle old bicycles to keep them out of landfills and sustain our programming, and help yourself learn and develop bicycle repair and maintenance skills. You can also become eligible to receive discounts on parts and accessories and have access to the workshop and tools for your own projects outside of regular open shop hours!
We host a monthly volunteer orientation on the 2nd Saturday each month from 1 pm to 2 pm. This provides an opportunity for interested folks to come in before open shop and talk about the ideals and goals of BSCB, tour the space, become familiar with the organization of the workshop, practice using some basic bicycle repair tools and exercise the hands-off coaching method we use when guiding patrons (DIY-ers) through their own repairs. All are welcome, regardless of skill level or experience with bikes. This is always, always an educational space: we’ll help each other with the basics and go from there, hopefully having fun and feeling accomplished each step of the way!
